Is there any way to get health insurance the same month?

Hello, just for some background. I have been feeling off since mid October and have symptoms which could possibly be related to a cancer. I’m 20 years old, and had Medicad since my parents don’t have health insurance through their jobs. Apparently once you’re past 18 or 20, they cut you off but for some reason my cousin who is 21 years old still has Medicad even though he’s not disabled and perfectly healthy.

I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy planned for this upcoming Monday, but received a call saying my health insurance status is inactive which suspects me to believe I was cut off because of the $24000 bill which would be billed to insurance after the procedure is done. I tried asking for an extension of Medicad to last until Monday but they didn’t seem to budge on it because of my age.

I got blue shield blue cross right away after finding out Medicad was inactive, and asked the operator on the phone if they could put the coverage into effect for this month since I lost my health insurance coverage but they didn’t seem to care and told me to wait until January for it to go into effect.

I’m just really stressed out with this whole situation since I was going to get answers on Monday, just for all of this to happen. I’m right now confused on what to do, it seems as if I’m getting worse every day and don’t know what condition I will be in by January. Is there any way to get health insurance the same month as December, while I wait for Januarys coverage to kick in? I’m from Kansas for reference.
