Is Multi-plan PPO a legit insurance plan?
The company that I've worked at for 10+ years very suddenly closed and let us know our insurance coverage will only last through the end of the month. In searching for new insurance plans, I found the site NYHealthplans.com, entered my basic info and phone number, and was immediately contacted. The person I spoke was very friendly and sounded professional, and after taking a bit more basic health info said the Multi-plan PPO was the best fit for me. The plan she described sounded almost too good to be true- $225/month, low co-pays, all my doctors and specialists covered. When I asked who the insurance provider was she said Multi-plan was the insurance company and that places that accept Aetna would take this insurance. I very much wanted this plan to be legit as it would solve all my problems, insurance-wise, but I felt hesitant to commit without doing any research. The representative transferred me to her supervisor who tried hard to convince me to sign up now saying there were a limited number of plans available at this rate and if someone else signed up while I was deciding I could end up having to pay a lot more. Is this a thing other people have encountered? I don't understand why there would be a limited number of plans available.
I listened to my gut and got off the call to do more research. I wasn't able to find any details about this specific plan online, Aetna didn't know about it when I called them, and the posts I've seen about similar multi-plan PPO plans seem concerning. I tried getting quotes from a few other similar sites and none of them seem to provide info on plans in writing, and I've been spammed by dozens of calls in the hours since I started my search.
Has anyone purchased insurance through NYHealthplans.com, or a similar site? Has anyone specifically gone with the Multi-plan PPO? I still want to believe this is a legit option but am also so worried it's a scam. Any advice would be so appreciated!!
