My work pays 80% of my health insurance. When I leave, I can pay 100% to keep it (not just Cobra, as long as I want). I'd really like to leave my job after next school year. I'll have been there 32 years and will be 56. Out-of-pocket insurance would cost $2200 for myself and my husband. It's an excellent plan with small copayments and no deductible. But, that's obviously a huge amount.

I just got diagnosed with breast cancer, so I don't want to change insurance to something lesser. I have to decide if I'm leaving by Dec 1 (but will work through June) and am hoping by then I'm given the all clear but will be on 6-month scans and medication for 5-10 years. If I'm not cleared and need more surgery, I will try to stay, but I'm really hoping to live life more now, if that makes sense.

I've looked at part-time jobs with insurance, but they aren't very good insurances. My husband's job has catastrophic only insurance. But, we will continue to explore there. Nothing on the Marketplace remotely compares to what I have. The closest is a Gold plan is about $500 less per month but has coinsurance and deductibles that are higher.

Is $2200 crazy!
