Insurance website lists out-of-network providers as in-network
I recently switched to a new insurance (Humana National POS-Open Access, UT) and I am trying to find new doctors. The online directory lists a bunch of doctors who, when I call them, say that they were mistakenly listed and never were in-network in my insurance in the first place. The website specifically says these doctors are covered in the practices I’m looking for in the insurance plan I’ve subscribed to, which means the website is advertising coverage for care providers that they don’t actually cover.
When talking with service reps, they keep asking me for a list of the care providers I’ve contacted so that they can update their database. I’m avoiding providing this information because I vaguely remember an article a while back about someone suing their insurance for false advertising on their in-network list, but I can’t seem to find that or any government laws/regulations about insurance companies maintaining their directories. Any of you able to point me to info related to this? I currently have no intention to sue, but my employer is wrapped up in this conversation and I don’t want my insurance convincing my employer that I’m lying about my situation or that I need to provide a laundry list of proof if it can be avoided.
