Insurance through my employer (UHC) from August 22 to April 23. In that time, I was diagnosed with ADD and major depression which necessitated multiple visits with my provider in order to "dial in" my Wellbutrin and Adderall prescriptions. Those claims have been denied but I have NOT been billed.

And this was months ago. Like back in Sept of 22 and up through March of 2023. The UnitedHealthcare website shows each of my claims, with a denied marker next to it, and then below that it lists out what was billed, discounted, covered, and not covered. One example I have from a visit in February 23 shows:
Amount Billed: $330;

Discount/Reductions: $0;

Amount Covered: $0;

and Amount Not Covered: $0

When I spoke to my provider, they said I did not owe them any money. I check every time I need to visit them. I am worried about contacting United directly, as my employer laid me off in April, and I can’t afford to pay them literally thousands of dollars worth of medical care. Especially considering I was never billed for, nor notified about my claims being denied. At least not until I was trying to apply to my state’s healthcare coverage and needed to login to the myUHC website.

Not only can I not afford it, but I also don’t understand why my claims are being denied at all. My provider is in network, and all of my medical needs were not only listed as covered, but were successfully covered before I started the job in August.

I realize that I changed jobs a few times, and with that, the level of coverage can change as well. However, it’s always been covered by UHC, and the most I’ve had to pay is $50 for my various prescriptions (which I probably won’t be able to afford now thanks to everything else).

I am hoping I don’t need to reach out to UHC directly, and that I am just misunderstanding things, which is why I am here asking for advice on what my next move should be. Am I missing something? Or is this something that a CSR would need to get involved with?

TL:DR; United denied my claims, says I owe them a bunch of money, but my provider says I don’t, and I have never gotten a bill in my life for any of these claims. Am I dumb and misunderstanding, or should I reach out to United, even though I can’t afford to pay them anything?
