Insurance Discount is Misinformation According to my Provider? (US Health Insurance)
I recently started seeing a therapist because I felt like it was finally the right time. It took me a while to find a therapist, and insurance is kind of a nightmare about this kind of stuff.
I settle on a therapist where u will pay for the service up front ($140) and then submit a claim to my insurance for reimbursement. I have a Blue Cross PPO.
Now, a couple months after I submitted my first claim, Anthem Blue Cross has responded to it saying that they will reimburse $90 (which is the number I was expecting). But they also said there is a $40 plan discount so I should only be responsible for $10. Insurance will be mailing the $90 to the providers office.
I reached out to the therapists office and asked how I would receive the $130. They said I would only get $90 back. When I told them my insurance told me it should be $10, they said that was “misinformation” and a billing person will call me tomorrow (we had been communicating through email).
Are they trying to pull something over on me? Why is there a discrepancy between insurance and the provider? And is there anything in particular I should say on my phone call tomorrow to help me out?
