Insurance Cancelled when I asked about the Bill and backdated to cancel in February

This is a long story, but I’ll try to keep it as short as possible and put a TLDR at the end.

I signed up for insurance through the Healthcare marketplace in December of last year and got a plan with ambetter for $35 a month.

In January I got something in the mail saying it had been cancelled because I hadn’t paid, but I never received a bill in the mail to be able to pay it.

I called the healthcare marketplace and they got me a new ambetter plan, this time for $24 a month, that would start in February.

I set up auto pay for this plan and get charged $13 a month through may (I have the receipts). I’m confused as to why its $13, but I’ve had ambetter before and one time they didn’t charge me for 5 months and then charged all of that at once so I assumed they’d work it out at some point like they did then.

In May, I get a bill for $140 (equivalent to the 35 amount for 4 months), so I call and ask what is going on. They say that I haven’t paid since January and that my premium is the $35. We end up on a 3 way call with the Health Insurance marketplace who tells them that my plan was changed to start on February 1st and be $24. They say they’re going to send over paperwork stating that.

Cut to 2 weeks later, and I get one piece of mail from ambetter stating that my premium is $24 and that the first payment was due 1/31/22.

Then, 2 days later, I get another piece of mail notifying me that my account was terminated and that the plan that started on 2/1 (the $24 one) was terminated due to voluntary withdrawal on 2/1 (it was showing as active on 5/23 when I visited the healthcare marketplace website) and that my plan started on 1/1/23 (the $35 one) was terminated on 2/28 due to nonpayment.

Again, I have this account set to auto pay and payments came on in February, March, and April.

When I spoke with the healthcare marketplace and ambetter in a 3 way call again today, the marketplace said that when ambetter terminated my plan from 1/1/23, that it also terminated the 2/1/23 one because they were on the same application.

TLDR: A clerical error caused my insurance to be deleted as of 2/28/23 despite me paying for it through the month of May.

So, down to questions.

Is there anything I can do here?

Since my insurance was backdated cancelled, will I end up with bills for the medical services I received for this year?

What happens to the money that I have paid for this year? I’ll need that back if I’m going to have to raw dog the American healthcare system.

Finally, the healthcare marketplace said it would take up to 30 days to look into this case, but I also just had a qualifying life event (I believe) that would allow me to re-enroll until the end of the month. Should I just do that?
