Hi all,

I was recently married on 03/22/2024 and am overwhelmed with trying to navigate health insurance for my wife.

I am a graduate student making ~43k/year and get health insurance through my university. She makes ~12k/year and has been on Medicaid. We are in New York State.

I don't believe she is eligible for Medicaid anymore since our household income exceeds the limit however when updating this on the NY state of health portal, it says she still is giving her income and household size even though we updated it with my information. Can this be correct? We indicated that we would be filing married separately. Is this why? If this is not correct, what are our options in trying to get her insured? Is she eligible for something like the essential plan? Is there a benefit in filing jointly of she were to choose a plan on the market place for tax credits?

Lasty, she can obtain insurance from my university at a cost of $3,792/year but I am not sure if this would be the most affordable option.

Thanks so much for the help!
