Input for Navigating a Unique Situation (WI Resident living in CA who will be travelling regularly)
Background: Currently uninsured as my medicaid just expired through WI (where I’m a resident). This year I spent Jan- Apr abroad, but the last month I have been living in CA with some family working a part-time restaurant job until July which is my only income so far this year. I will be travelling again from July to September in Europe (I have travel insurance set up for this) and will then return to CA in September to work two more months. Then in November I plan to visit South America for up to 6 months where I plan to remotely work (I have a background in SEO). After that I’m not sure where my residence will be.
Ideally I won’t be uninsured while I’m in the states, and am wondering what the best course of action would be? With my income levels now I believe that I would qualify for some discounted insurance for this year, however I don’t have California residency and this is the only state I’ll be for this year. I know that catastrophic plans exist, but I’ll be abroad like 4 out of the next 6 months, so wondering if there would be a more cost effective alternative. CA residency is something I’m considering since I’ll likely spend most of my stateside time here, but not sure if I can establish it in time for the fall.
Any input/suggestions would be appreciated.
