In a crazy weird situation and SO lost. Can anyone make sense of this situation and the proper way to move forward? Laid off and not sure what benefits to accept.

My employer just told me that I'm being laid off officially on June 30th. Until then, I'm still considered an employee with full pay and benefits but no longer working.

As part of my severance, they are offering to either cover COBRA for 3 months OR give me the cash equivalent as a lump sum. My wife is covered under my insurance but just signed up under her employer as she is now full time and it will go into effect in 2 weeks, at which point I was going to remove her from mine since she would be on two plans.

My wife may very well be possibly quitting her job in 6 weeks if she's unable to be transferred as we're moving to a new state at which point we'd be unemployed (it's a long story, but we can afford to do it).

So I'm at a crossroads here on what to do. Do I remove her from my insurance while I'm still employed to save on the deductions over the next 3-4 paychecks (approx. $800)? If she has to quit HER job and I'm also unemployed, we would both have to pay for COBRA separately if I remove her which would be way more expensive, right?
