Idk how insurance works outside of Kaiser

I’m considering switching from Kaiser to blue shield access +. I think it’s cheaper? Any California state workers know? I don’t know if I’m understanding the HR documents correctly,

I want to switch to something cheaper. Kaiser is going up $117/month for me. I hesitate though because I don’t know how other insurances works. Kaiser I can pick my doctor and doctor location online. I can make phone, video or in person appointments online or by phone (usually a month out). It’s a $15 copay in person and free otherwise. If I go to the doctor in person they may send me down to the lab to be tested and it’s right there. Then they may send me to the pharmacy also right there to get a prescription that usually ranges $5-$20. I also have a therapist that I like that I see once a month to every couple of months depending.

When I looked at Blue shield it showed only one doctor who was a GP in a 15 mile radius accepting patients and I felt like I was doing something wrong. Is it easier to get help? Last time I needed a doctor at Kaiser I couldn’t get an appointment except a month out and had to email to try and get a strep test done. When I went, people were rude.

Love any info. Trying to decide what to do during my works opens enrollment.

I’m in my 30s in Sacramento.
