I was informed in Q1 2021 my old insurance paid for some Q1 2020 eye appointments. Received $500+ in bills for the appointments today.

I’ll make this story as simple as possible. Jan 2020; I suffered a corneal abrasion which became a corneal ulcer, it was an excruciatingly painful two months of literal darkness. I had to visit the doctor more than four times. I was on my dads insurance and the optometrist was in network. Problem was solved. But COVID began… During this time, my dad lost said insurance because he quit his job.

Jan-Feb 2021; I receive bills in the mail for those appointments. Obviously has to be a mistake? No. The dimwit optometrist thought delaying billing people for the first year of ‘Rona was the kind thing to do. My insurance was no longer there to be billed, so they forward the charges to me. I explained the situation and contacted the old insurer and the situation was sorted out. The insurance said they would pay since I was covered at the time of the appointments.

May 2022; I receive bills again with a sticker that says pay immediately. Going to go through the same annoying process as last year. Just wanted to hear if anyone has experience with a situation like this?
