I need advice picking a healthcare plan

Hey everybody,

I’m currently a resident of FL and have a healthcare plan through the exchange.

I’m paying about $650 a month and it’s brutal. While my deductible and copay are great, my network is limited to a major hospital company called Advent. I get some flexibility to see a non-advent PCP and psychiatrist, but most specializations seem to be through Advent, so my options feel limited.

Before that I had a PPO with United HC through my employer and paid $800 a month for 18 months to keep that plan. And it was a great plan. Most providers took it and I had a lot of options.

Short of working with an employer who provides a similar plan, is there any other way to get a plan like that?

Are short term plans (the ones that are 36 months worth it that you can buy through an insurer directly) worth it? How about contacting a health insurance “agent?”

I’d really appreciate any and all advice. I don’t mind paying more, I just want to make sure I’m getting more bang for my buck like I was with my old PPO.

Thank you!
