I have Excellus BC/BS high deductible ($8000 for single) group plan through work. It costs me $145/ from my paycheck. If I opt out of their insurance, I would just receive the extra money (taxed, I’m sure, in my paycheck. My primary care Dr will stop accepting my insurance on 12/31. What can I do?

I understand that my Dr’s and the insurance company might resolve this issue before the deadline, but I want to be prepared for the worst. I don’t want to switch doctors. I’d rather switch insurance. I have no idea how to go about doing that. And, if I did find other insurance, would it be comparable with what I already have in that $140/ week price range?

I make about 70k a year, but for tax purposes, I only gross about 40k a year due to a program at work from National Benefits Management that reimburses 70% of our out on pocket costs, excluding dental, vision, and prescriptions if I fill out the claim form. The downside is I’m not contributing as much to social security. Im fairly certain I can stay with that program even if I obtain healthcare outside of my employers.

So, can anyone help me figure out how to navigate this? Also- I work is a chef. There is no HR department. The owners daughter handles this kind of stuff, but honestly, isn’t that great about it.
