I am off my parent’s health insurance this December – I will have less than a month gap and am unsure what to do for covered CA

Do I start my coverage for 2023 and is there an option to have that gap covered from my old insurance? I am just worried about the tax penalty thing and what happens if I get hurt or need to go to the hospital in the latter half of the month. I will be in another country (NZ) so if something happens I have no idea how it would work without insurance.

Also I want to get a platinum HMO plan because I need to see a gyno, dermatologist for skin cancer checks, and someone for my hip (preventative) next year – even though I know the lower tiers allow for an HSA I don’t really have money to contribute to that HSA even if I wanted to. My parents said they would help me with my monthly payments (~200 a month) so that makes the platinum much more affordable for me considering I will actually use it. I work part time working on getting a position at a fire department which will have the ~good stuff~ insurance haha but in the meantime I am on my own.

What should I be doing? is there something I am missing
