Husband’s company informed us that their HMO doesn’t cover norcal (they are in socal) a month after we enrolled and selected benefits. They sent us an HSA credit card thing. What is going on?

My husband works for a fairly wealthy mid-size company. They touted they had health insurance we have had before (Kaiser).

We enrolled in January, deciding not to opt for mine as I recently job hopped and don’t like my new place and am actively in interviews for a new position right now.

I went into a clinic to get my flu shot and they informed me I’m not covered with the insurance card number I have.

My husband asked his company what was going on. Apparently the broker for their insurance ‘made a mistake’ and they don’t cover insurance in Norcal. The company is in Socal. They didn’t offer options but we received a card for a health savings plan in the mail like a week later. I don’t know what that means but my kidney disease needs hmo coverage.

What can we do in this situation? Its past open enrollment. Did something illegal happen?

My plan is to switch to my insurance as soon as I get a new job (fingers crossed) to fix this but I feel like something really shady happened.

We have been paying premiums and received coverage for dental and vision.
