How does anyone find out the cost of anything?
Having surgery tomorrow, I’ve been through the Dr, hospital, and insurance company just to get a ballpark on what my share is. My Dr insists they got a preauthorization from Cigna but it doesn’t show in the Cigna portal. Dr asked for $1000 deposit but said Cigna said they’d pay $1221. I haven’t met my deductible yet, I’m not even close and I offered to pay the entire $1221, they didn’t want it as they might have to refund me. This makes no sense to me. Hospital was kinda useless. Cigna was the worst. I started a chat and gave the guy all the info I had and of course we were disconnected on the chat. To my amazement he CALLED ME BACK. Gave me a bunch of dollar amounts for different things and I asked him to email it to me. He said he couldn’t email it but could send it to my inbox in their portal, he asked if I knew how to find it, I said yes and he said it will be there in 30 minutes. Never received it so I started another chat the next day and this time the woman said she couldn’t help me without the CPT codes. I said this is the first I’m hearing about these codes, never heard CPT before. She should she has no idea how the agent gave me any info without those codes and she couldn’t help me at all. So I guess it’s a crap shoot, I’ll have the surgery and hope Cigna pays enough that my bank account isn’t broken.
