Hospital still hasn’t gotten prior authorization and my procedure is in one week…should I be freaking out??

I’m scheduled for an outpatient procedure (cardiac ablation) next week. I called my hospital a month ago to ask if they had gotten prior authorization from my health insurance and they told me the hospital insurance department does it 2-3 weeks before a procedure. So I was like ok, cool.

I probably should have called earlier last week or the week before but things have been hectic since I started a new job, so I just called my insurance today. Turns out hospital still hasn’t gotten prior authorization yet?! The insurance rep called the hospital and said that the front desk forwarded the case to the surgery department and told me to check back in this week.

I’m internally freaking out though. My procedure is next week. I already took off time from work and everything. I got all my labs done. My deductible was met this year, so everything is all set for this procedure. I am so worried that it’s not going to get approved in time, especially since the rep told me it can take a couple weeks for procedure approvals….being an adult sucks…
