Hospital not receiving insurance?

I had to go to the ER this past weekend. When I got there I provided my insurance information on the online paperwork. I filled it out manually and took a picture of the cards. They ended up sending me home and told me to come back if I was in more pain. Long story short I did have to go back. What I noticed before going back though was that the portal marked me as "self-pay/no insurance." When I went the second time I once again provided all of my insurance information. After two days I checked for some results online when I noticed it still said that I was self-pay instead of showing my insurance. Yesterday I called and provided my insurance once again over the phone which was a nightmare.

Now on today, where I literally just now got a call saying that my "bill was being readjusted from $32k to $27k." I explained that I hadn't even received a bill yet and that I gave my insurance yesterday. The representative switched gears and said to allow 30 days for processing. I understand the processing part, but I thought it was weird how they suddenly switched from me owing the full bill to telling me to wait on top of the fact my insurance didn't go through before. Does anyone have any possible explanation to what could be happening here?
