Hospital Messed Up Prior Authorization

Hello,

I had a surgical procedure done and the hospital obtained prior authorization (and approval) for the wrong procedure prior to my surgery. After my surgery the insurance denied the claim with the EOB specifying that it is not a covered procedure, and lists the financial responsibility on myself as the patient.

I have not been billed by the hospital yet but I am trying to understand what my options are. Is it typical that the hospital will see their mistake and go back to fix the prior authorization, then resubmit the claim? I want to make sure that I'm not responsible for the hospitals inadequate billing since they requested the wrong prior authorization code before my surgery. Wanted to see on what my next steps should be, or if I should wait to see if the hospital fixes their mistake. Surely I should not be responsible for the hospitals error if in fact my insurance still refuses to pay?
