Hospital Bills for Birth under Baby’s Name

My wife just gave birth and has hit her deductible for the year, so had all of the bills in her name covered by insurance. However, we have hospital bills that occurred prior to discharge that are in Baby's name. Baby was added to my (Dad's) insurance and so they would be covered by mine, but would obviously rather have it covered by my wife's insurance.

We called insurance, and they said the expenses were billed incorrectly. They said all expenses up until Mom was discharged should be in Mom's name as patient, not Baby's name. This would obviously be the best option, but I'm having a hard time getting the Hospital to understand and change the bill.

There is a lot of conflicting information online about whether Mom's insurance should automatically cover these changes without adding the baby as a dependent on the plan. Can anyone confirm what should happen in this situation? Am I correct to believe that there should be no hospital bills in Baby's name prior to normal discharge?
