Hospital admittance being denied

I'm located in FL. I went to the ER (2nd visit in a week) for chest pain/discomfort/shortness of breath, among other things. This was in early March, and in total, this lasted just under 2 weeks. The 2nd time I went in, I was admitted and stayed overnight for observation along with having a bunch of tests done by the cardiologist. I received a letter last week from my insurance provider (United Healthcare, self funded plan provided from my local) stating that my claim is being denied because the preliminary test results showed that I did not need to be admitted and that I could have received treatment outside the hospital. If it was the hospital's decision to admit me, why am I the one having to fight the claim denial? I don't understand.

I'm given the option to write a letter to appeal the decision but, what are the chances of the appeal being accepted? I'm guessing near zero. I can't even begin to imagine what the costs are going to be for all the tests that were done, and I don't know how I should go about handling this.
