Earlier this year my 5 year old was diagnosed with autism/ ADHD. Obviously this was huge shock for my husband and I. We both are doing our best to ensure she thrives in school and socially.

Historically, we have been a PPO family. I love having the autonomy to choose my doctor and don’t mind the high rate since we use our HSA funds (which is another bonus). However, with my daughter being diagnosed, I feel it is worth it paying a little more (I am assuming I reach my out of pocket max this year), but have everything in one place and not spending 6 hours searching for therapist in my area (in the university hospital I’ve always gone, I’ve had to wait months for autism related appointments).

Assuming I reach my out of pocket max, the HMO plan would be $1,150 more in one year- which might be worth it as I am not stressing out about researching different therapies/ therapist.

My HMO option is Kaiser. The PPO option is a hospital through local university and considered one of the best in the US, which we’ve gone to for years, but we can also try other clinics or specialty centers.

Has anyone tried accessing resources for their small child for autism/ ADHD- was Kaiser or PPO successful?

Note: we live in Southern California
