HELPPPP.. Colonial Life Insurance

i’m 24, i’m from NJ but just moved to NC, and my gross income is about $24k (i’m a student and newly independent since my moms passing)

my mom passed away in march of this year, we have been going back and forth because they gathered her obituary before we could submit any documentation to her after beginning her life insurance claim. she put as her beneficiaries “all children equally”, quite literally like that, very vague. She has THREE BIOLOGICAL children, BUT she married my dad who has 4 kids of his own before her and my mom never had LEGAL GUARDIANSHIP of these kids, but we put them in the obituary out of respect because my mom did care about them and vice versa. But we all know my mom wouldn’t leave them money, they’re not her kids and she even spoke to me about her life insurance and how it would be for me and my two brothers (her 3 bio kids) which one of them was actually adopted out and she didn’t have legal rights to him either. now the bio mom of my fathers other 4 kids is demanding and claiming to hire lawyers because my mom “left money for every single kid including hers” which i find untrue and even looked into our counties laws and legally, if there is no will, (and clearly her life insurance is quite vague) her only next of kin’s would be her husband (my dad) then her biological children, then her parents etc THEN non-biological children.

how can i go about this??? my half siblings only care about the money, they only ever spoke to my mom for money, and never anything else while she was alive. i find it so unfair that they’re piling all this on me, calling me selfish, etc just because im trying to follow the law.
