Help with out of network surgery center

Hello wonderful people!

I have Anthem BCBS HDHP with $2,800 individual / $5,600 family deductible for in-network and $5,600 individual / $11,200 family deductible for out of network. 80% coverage after deductible for most things until out of pocket maximum of $5,000 individual / $10,000 family for in-network and $10,000 individual / $20,000 family for out of network.

Obviously in-network is the way to go. My problem is I fractured my fifth metatarsal last saturday (went to ER for x-rays and cast) and saw an (in-network) orthopedic surgeon on Monday who said I needed surgery. His scheduler called the next day to schedule me for surgery the next day on Wednesday. On Wednesday at the surgery center I was told the facility was out of network for my insurance. I suppose I should have asked the scheduler on Tuesday or verified myself but the surgery needed to get done ASAP. If I said no, I would likely have had to find a new surgeon and made another pre-op appointment so they could see me before I scheduled surgery.

So essentially I feel like I had no option. I called Anthem BCBS on Wednesday after my surgery and they basically said I was probably out of luck and that it would be processed as out of network and my only option would be to file an appeal once I get the claim. I doubt I’ll have much luck here.

Is there anything I can do now? What’s my best option?

THANK YOU in advance for any help. Truly appreciate it.
