Here’s our situation: my fiancé is a Vet and a student. Since he left the navy he’s been on state insurance, but after we get married next week my income will make it so that he no longer qualifies for state insurance. I’m a teacher and have health insurance through my employment. For just me the premium is 0, but if I add him it will be like 6-800 a month, like a third of each of my paychecks which I guess we can make happen if we absolutely have to but it’s going to make things A LOT harder. He was not in for long enough to have qualified for free health insurance with the VA. I think they mentioned something about having other options but we never looked into it because he qualified for free state health insurance. I have a phone number to try to start navigating that bureaucratic nightmare but wanted to see what all are options are. This is all so confusing and convoluted and I know once we’re married we will only have 30 days to figure it out before he can’t go on mine anymore. Help!
