Help with insurance out of network bill- Florida

Could use some help for how we should fight this! Appreciate whoever reads it in advance! Thanks.

When my wife was 36 weeks pregnant, her OBGYN told us that the femur of our son was measuring small and we should go see a specialist who could do a more accurate ultrasound. In the conversation we were hesitant but she pushed that we should no matter what because it would be covered by insurance…same hospital we were delivering at. So she sent the referral and we went.

We ended up having to go to the specialist 2 times (once per week until the baby was born) because just for precaution to make sure everything was ok. Baby was small which put him in the “fetal growth restriction” because he was under the 10% weight. Both of us are small people so they said it was most likely that.

The baby came out much bigger than they thought and was healthy!

Well we just got the bill from the first ultrasound for about $3k for a 45min visit. And saying it was out of network.

Insurance won’t cover it. Our obgyn referred us to the imaging place, saying it was covered and it wasn’t. The hospital never mentioned they were out of network when we gave them our insurance. Lesson learned to double check…

I called the imaging center and pretended to be shopping around for the ultrasound and consultation bc I didn’t have insurance to get pricing and the lady said it would be $700..(not 3k like they are trying to charge us).

HELP please on any advice. Will definitely fight it but anything that can help us legally hold something against them would help. Trying not to get stuck paying an extra $6k after all the other bills. Thanks!
