Help! No COBRA notice!

Help! No cobra notice / insured until today?!?

So I went from full time benefitted staff to just as needed (per diem) at my employer in June 2023. I waited forever to receive my Cobra but it never came. I kept checking with blue cross site and saw that I had benefits up until I started receiving my benefits for another position 10/10. I never was able to purchase on the cal insurance site because I kept showing insured. Well in August I fell and broke my back. Nothing surgical needed but expensive diagnostics!!! My plan acted like it was still active and paid for the bills. It was a hdhp and I owed about $9000 out of pocket after the visit.

Now today I see that they show my employer just informed them my benefits should have been cancelled 7/31. But I had been using that insurance for my injury. I’m in California and that er visit for a few ct scans/mri/xray/labs was about $50,000.

I’m freaked out and scared about all of my hospital bills. I would have purchased my own insurance but I never received the cobra notice.

What should I do?!? Has anyone experienced this? Feels WRONG.
