Help needed picking out health insurance for future pregnancy
We plan to have our 2nd child in June 2023 if all goes to plan like it did with our first (I’m a teacher off at the end of May). We are all in good health—I am 26 and my husband is 29. We have a 2 year old.
My husband just started his new job with the county. We have the option of PPO or HDHP High Deductible plan. Both premiums are the same for a family ($216 per month). My last pregnancy and birth was complication free, vaginal, induced, and I did have an epidural. Obviously I can’t predict another uncomplicated pregnancy and birth again, but that’s what I hope for. We were in the high deductible plan my last pregnancy and we had to pay the 20% coinsurance after the high deductible. It was about $12k out of our pocket total.
Reminder that both mom and baby have their own separate care bills billed to them post birth and that mom has bills for visits and scans during pregnancy.
PPO— -no HSA -Co-Pays are low but do not go towards Deductible, but all pregnancy related treatment including office visits do not have a co-pay, instead they go towards the deductible -$500 Deductible per person -$5,500 Individual Out of Pocket Max -$14,300 Family Out of Pocket Max -20% co-insurance after deductible for pregnancy/birth related expenses
HDHP— -$1200 Employer HSA Contribution each year (and we always contribute, as well) -$3,750 Deductible per person -$7,500 Deductible per family -$3,750 Individual Out of Pocket Max -$7,500 Family Out of Pocket Max -100% coverage after deductible for pregnancy/birth related expenses
Thank you for your help!!!
