Help me understand if I qualify for Special Enrollment.
I had no work for 2 months because I was at home caregiver and my recipient has been in a nursing home for that time and just got a letter saying I will lose my employer health insurance (the website says if I don't have atleast 72 hours per month authorized then I will lose my health insurance and even this was a giant head ache because in fact they extended it 3 months without telling me forcing me to retract and cancel my special enrollment application but I still just got the letter saying I will lose my health insurance), I just got my job back so will be able to sign back up next month but still got the letter saying I will lose coverage.
I have called over 7 times to covered california and got a different answer every time.
The first person said I qualify for medi-cal but the phones were down so call back in a day.
The 2nd person said that thats not true and if I pay for it they won't care and I can just keep both insurance and then just start paying for 1 when the other runs out.
The 3rd person was constantly getting mad at me because and they weren't answering my question if I qualify for the subsidy still, but they kept responding with "listen to me, listen to me just sign up and pay for it" when that doesn't answer my question about my special enrollment and if I can still have health insurance through covered california market place at the discounted rate because I would still have the option for cobra and also will be offered health insurance back if I choose to the next month
The last person said all those other people were wrong and said that if my employer offers me cobra and also offers me health insurance next month that I have to take it and can't get health insurance through the market place, but then whats the point of special enrollment? And this means I would have lapse of coverage for a month and I need to go see the doctor for a very important appointment. I want to get health insurance through the market place because it gives me more options in doctors and hospitals I can go to instead of my employer one which I will lose anyways.
Also from how the last person talked does that mean if I get the discounted rate/subsidy but at anytime offered employer health insurance that I would lose the discounted federal and state subsidy and would be forced back to my employer health insurance?
Also my employer health insurance also are not helpful, the 1st person said "if you pay for it why would they care" and the 2nd person said "with cobra offering and getting the job back and being offered health insurance next month then even if I lost insurance I will probably have to take up the employer health insurance or lose any subsidy I have with the market place because the employer would be offering health insurance".
Without this discounted rate I would pay 300 dollars a month and with the discount I would pay 60 hence I need this discount/subsidy.
Can anyone explain to me how this works? And if I am offered health insurance again in a month and also cobra then is it true I can no longer get a special enrollment and also no longer get the federal and state discounted rate/subsidy for health insurance?
