My company’s benefits registration closes today and I need help choosing the correct plan for my family of four. We are generally healthy, but my kids are in school and daycare so we do have to make office/urgent care visits for them a 3-4 times a year for each kid.

They are offering three plans through BCBS and the Platinum PPO is out of our price range so I am left with two different plans. One is an HDHP and the other is Silver PPO.

HDHP Deductible $5000 for family Physician/Urgent Care visits for non-preventative are 20% after deductible. Company pays $1000k in HSA per year and I was going to put in $1k as well. Premium: $265.48

Silver PPO Deductible $10000 for family Co-pays are $40 for physician and $100 for urgent care Premium: $131.28

I usually have a PPO for my family, but I am worried about the HDHP costing us more out of pocket and even after research I am not sure if it would be better than the PPO since the PPO has a waaaaayyyy higher deductible. We wouldn’t meet that as a family (hopefully) but the upfront costs seem lower.

I am just super confused which to choose. Thoughts?
