I recently finished filing my taxes and low and behold I had a 1095-A….. except I canceled my plan in 2022 due to them already scamming me previously. I was finishing my taxes when I was dinged for not have all my proper paperwork filed, and not know why I did a quick search and I found out that HealthCare.gov had 3 months worth of an insurance plan in 2023 in my name. I get my insurance through work so why would I need this, and why only 3 months?!

Anyway, when I put it into my taxes the damned plan I had no idea I even had is forcing me to pay $500 back because of a credit I apparently didn't qualify for? I have no idea what to do now. I've tried calling their number and I just get put through the ringer instead of getting a competent person to help me. I have an email stating my cancelation yet they say they can't do anything with that. So frustrating.

If you find this post when trying to decide whether or not to go with HealthCare.gov then I hope it at least gives you pause because this is ridiculous and no one should have to give money back to the government for an insurance credit they neither knew they had nor ever used. Trash website and trash insurance.
