Health Marketplace and State of Residence
Hey, so I have a pretty complicated question, so feel free to ask questions! Essentially, I’m looking to purchase a health insurance plan for 2023 from the marketplace, but I’m not sure what state is my state of residence and where I should apply for health insurance:
In late summer, I moved from State A to State B for a job (less than 180 days in State B), but this spring (mid-January to June) I have a job out of country (it’s actually the same job, but it’s complicated). I do not have a permanent residence/address in either State A or State B (my driver’s license is still State A), and in early January I will be staying with my parents in State C (this will also be, for USPS, where I will be forwarding my mail). When I come back to the US in June, I literally have no idea where I will be trying to find an apartment or a job — could be State A, B, C, or somewhere else. Given the fact that my US health insurance ends in December and my health insurance plan for the spring is international (and will end on May 31st), I’m looking to get a health insurance plan from the marketplace to deal with gaps in coverage. I also will most likely not have a job when I return or my job will not start for 1-3 months (what’s not to love about academia?!).
Additionally, and this is where it gets fun, I have a chronic medical condition that requires treatment every 2 months (and that really should not exceed 3 months) and requires an insurance authorization. Thus, I need an insurance plan that works across the country for non-emergency doctor visits.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
