Health insurance – walking boot not covered?

I sprained my ankle a few weeks ago and went to Urgent Care for an XRay. Thankfully it was negative but it was a decently bad sprain. The Nurse practitioner said she’d wrap it in an Ace Bandage, and I asked her “what if I realize I need a walking boot; what do I do?” So she checked the back and just put a walking boot on me. I didn’t question it.

Turned out I only needed the boot for 2 days. Now I got a bill from Highmark Bluecross Blueshield (Western NY) for $325 because of the boot. I had a $60 copay which I paid and insurance covered most of the WellNow visit itself.

I think $325 is pretty egregious for a boot that I could get on Amazon for $50. I’ve never had to go through this so I didn’t know I’d get screwed for the bill for the boot – that’s why I didn’t object at urgent care, I was in pain and thought I might need it so I went along with it even though I didn’t explicitly ask for it. Is there any argument I can make with Highmark to reduce or eliminate the $325 charge? The statement they mailed me says “No Payment can be made for this service. Your plan does not cover this prosthetic supply service.”

Thanks in advance….
