I fell for one of those private health insurance “scams” that was a misrepresented gap insurance plan. I went through their portal to try to cancel and there is absolutely nowhere to cancel your plan. I tried to call but was outside of their business hours (8-5:30 customer service M-F). Through some research both on reddit and other corners of the internet, I was about to get a run-around trying to cancel it over the phone. I did agree to pay for this, though my research after the plan came through left me uneasy. I ended up contesting it with my bank, citing misrepresentation. Will I somehow get in trouble for disputing this charge? I did give them my personal info and card info which was scary enough, and I’m worried I’ll somehow get in trouble for this. This all should’ve been a red flag but I just didn’t know what I didn’t know.

A little more info; I got into this by googling info about private health insurance, providing just my name and number/email, then being directed to a company directly from that site while immediately being bombarded with texts and calls from other companies/agents. I was told that I’d receive an email with my login info within 48 hours. It never came and I had to call their customer service to get the login, which the customer service agent struggled to send me, though it eventually came through. I was told that a starter “packet” would come in the mail within a week of the signup, but that also never came. I’ve had no further correspondence with anyone from the company, the sales agent, or anything like this. No emails or anything. Their portal is also seemingly very unsecure in the fact that it doesn’t log me out and when I go to type in the site it immediately takes me to my dashboard or the page with my like virtual insurance card & info. Also important to note, I signed up on September 4th but the plan was meant to take effect October 1, so I didn’t receive any services or anything before disputing the charge.
