Health Insurance Rock and a hard place

My wife and I find ourselves in a pickle that seems expensive or unable to get out of. We are both on our respective parent's insurances, due to better coverages and to save money while we can. My wife and I are expecting on October 26th of this year, and we find after the first OB visit (and a 2K bill) that her parent's insurance doesn't cover any maternity care for dependents, including the birth.

The issue comes because we are unable to get on my insurance (she doesn't work) without a qualifying life event. We could create one if my parents were able to kick me off of their insurance, but we need a qualifying life event to do so. I make decent money (90K a year which doesn't go as far as the government thinks it does) so we don't qualify for an Medicaid or any of those low-income options. Her parent's renewal period is in July so they can kick her off so we could get her an individual plan, but we're facing two more expensive OB visits between then.

Any advice for creating a life event or maybe maternity-only health policies that we could subscribe to? TIA
