Health Insurance Required for Nursing School – Help?

I am 20 years old and recently got accepted into nursing school in FL which is all well and good, but they are requiring me to show proof of health insurance by August and I currently don't have any. I am still a dependent, but my mom does not want to add me to her health insurance policy as it causes a raise from $89 to $500/month. With her income, I do not qualify for Medicaid. The insurance offered through my school would be almost $600/mo for me alone. I'm not too worried about a comprehensive plan as I get low-cost care at my school's health services and do not have any major conditions requiring lots of procedures or medications. Plus, I should be permanently in the work field in two years.

I've done some research and some other nursing students get gap insurance plans for their time in nursing school just to show proof of health insurance with costs running around $90/mo. Is this my best option? If so, should I keep gap insurance for my duration in school? I doubt that I'll be able to qualify for anything through a job as nursing school is time-intensive – a part-time job will be all I can handle. I hate that I'm being made to pay for something I do not need when I can get all of my healthcare (including my vaccines & physicals for nursing school) at a very low cost just by paying tuition.
