Health Insurance Question, NEED HELP (TRICARE/Select Health)

Insurance Help and Pregnant Wife (Tricare/Select Health)

Hello, not sure if anyone is able to help me, but asking here in case.

BLUF: Worried about receiving thousands in bills for the past 2 years, possibly facing thousands in bills for my wife’s birth, and unable to do anything because it’s not “open season”.

I am currently in a difficult situation, my wife has tricare select which is a secondary insurance (primary without OHI) and she apparently is still under her parents healthcare plan (Select Health) and has been for the last 2 years we have been married.

She is due to give birth soon. We recently went to a DME supplier that had her with both insurances, we tried getting the other healthcare provider removed but the hospital said her policy was still active and that we would need to contact the insurance company to cancel it.

Given the prescription needs to be processed, we called Select Health to call about canceling. They asked why, and we said we have Tricare. Now they said they are legally obligated to reach out to Tricare, which will cause tricare to look back into all the claims filed through them, realize they were never filed through OHI/eligible for the OHI ,and I’ll probably get sent a huge bill for all her care in the last 2 years.

Her provider she is seeing for the birth is in Tricare’s network but not Select Health, and Select Health won’t let her dis-enroll because it is not open season. It seems strange she is forced to keep her parents plan and there is no way to cancel, especially because she hasn’t been receiving any correspondence from them. Additionally, the facility where she is giving birth at is not covered by Select Health, but is in Tricare’s network. As soon as Select Health reaches out to them, they won’t process it because it’s not in Select Health’s network.
