Health insurance question between jobs

I lost my job at the end of June and my new job is starting in the last week of August. I want to buy a health insurance for my 4 year old kid (US citizen) until my job starts. I thought this would be simpler but here is my problem.

I could buy an insurance from an insurance marketplace (Covered California) based on a qualifying life event (lost job). However, would I be able to stop that insurance and then switch to a better, employer-offered insurance once the job starts at the end of August?

From my understanding, voluntarily losing (canceling) the insurance is not a qualifying life event and starting a new job is not a qualifying life event on its own. Would I be stuck with a lower quality insurance till the open enrollment comes at my company? I feel like this should be a very common scenario but I haven’t found any concrete guidance.

Edit: the salary at the new job is higher but not by a lot (maybe by 10%). Including this because “Changes in your income that affect the coverage you qualify for” is a qualifying life event but I don’t think it would apply to me.
