health insurance question about rescinded coverage

I was suppose to have back surgery in Feb but canceled as the herniated disc healed on its on. then it re-herniated in June and I had to have surgery. I waited the 3 weeks needed for the office to get the procedure approved through my insurance. fast forward a month after the surgery and I just got a letter from my insurance saying it was rescinded back to the inception date in March.

The reason it was rescinded is because they said I lied on my application. Which I kind of did, sort of unknowingly though. My agent called me in March to renew over the phone. She asked if I thought I would have to have back surgery later, to which I replied, No, I think I'm good. She then asked if I was sure, because we would need a different type of Insurance.. to which I again replied No, it hasn't bothered me in months.

In hindsight I really regret not question this. But I was on vacation when she called and was hurrying to get off the phone. I thought maybe I had a leg to stand on since I didn't fill out the application. But when I mentioned that to her she explained she emailed me a copy afterwards that I signed off on.

I understand this is from my own stupidity and I likely don't have a leg to stand on, but figured I would at least ask what all i can do?

Ive already called and got it negotiated down to about 1/4 of the original total since it will be self pay now. But i honestly don't have that either. I only had the surgery because they told me it was approved. Isn't this the sort of thing they are suppose to check beforehand?
