Health Insurance Plan Advice for Young Dude
Hey everybody, I hope it is ok that I am on here asking for advice! I am a young, mostly healthy, single male who just got a new job and is weighing my health insurance options.
There are 3 plans offered by my insurance that I am considering:
HDHP
Monthly Premium: ~$50
Deductible: $1600 IN / $4500 OUT
$4500 OOPL
HSA option, they contribute $500 per year
20% coinsurance IN / 40% out
Guide PPO
Monthly Premium: ~$60
Deductible: $0 IN / $1000 OUT
$3000 OOPL
Low co-pays
Medical EPO (In-Network Only)
Monthly Premium: $0
Deductible: $500 IN
$3400 OOPL
Low-medium co-pays, 15% coinsurance for emergency services
Now even though an HSA sounds pretty cool to me, $500 a year contribution doesn't seem like a lot (my ignorant opinion). I am healthy, but I also play a sport as an adult and am somewhat accident prone, so the HDHP kinda scares me. The EPO plan might be in network only, but it gives me no premium at all, and I value seeing a doctor when I want for a chill co-pay. So I think this is the one I am going to go with. Somebody let me know if they disagree!
One more question, the Medical EPO plan says "deductible waived" under the co-pay for my doctor visits. Does this mean I will only ever have to pay co-pay and this does not go towards deductible? Or does this mean that I have to pay full cost until meeting the $500 deductible through other means?
Thanks so much in advance for the advice!!!
EDIT: In-Network preventative care is 100% covered for all plans.
