Health Insurance payment fiasco

I have been dealing with insurance/medical provider billing issues since 2019. This specific situation is from 2019 til today.

My wife went from her dad’s insurance to cobra in 2019, she was pregnant and it didn’t make sense to start a new plan in September.

The insurer did not carry her deductible over, we had already hit the limit in June of that year. We went through the rest of the year thinking everything was good. Healthy baby and momma. Next thing we know it’s 2 years later and we get a letter from collections. 4500 in bills went to collections from september-december. I end up doing a full audit of her medical bills and insurance EOBs. Finally get in touch with someone who figures out they messed up and should have applied the previous deductible to the cobra plan.

A few months later we are taken to court for the bills and during this the insurance sends new EOBs stating they are covering it.

The providers say they never have recieved anything from insurance. We end up with a judgment against us but the collection agency assures the judge that if insurance pays they will apply it to the deductible.

Now I get a wage garnishment letter.

Call collection agency, no change, nothing from insurance.

Call the providers, no changes, nothing from insurance.

Sit all day on the phone with insurance. They finally find everything and can show they sent payments, the check #s, and the dates.

Now to follow through on Monday and make sure insurance calls the providers and get it figured out.
