Health Insurance lied to me about my coverage!?

What do I do? BCBS is terrible and has been incredibly vague over the phone.

I’ve been having some chest pains for several months now and I swore to myself next time it got terribly bad I’d head to the ER. A day prior to going to the ER I called BCBS. They said I was still covered at 80-100% of the allocated amount. 80% for medical non emergency (which it was not an emergency) and 100% for a true medical emergency (life or death).

Ok go to the ER, my card goes through and I owe 150$ co pay. Pay it.

Few days later call insurance back again and find out the whole policy/plan had been cancelled a month prior. Makes no sense because I had several doctors appointments and medications I got during that time.

Anywho they tell me that once the plan is reinstated the claims during that time can be reprocessed. Reprocessing can take 45 days.

I call them again a few days after that. Same thing. Promising me it can be reprocessed once the employer contacts them (which is my dad).

Then today I contact them again and they said that it CANNOT be reprocessed. So I went to the ER uninsured. Um what the hell thats 25k that I don’t have!

I kept asking questions, like “why was I told differently and can it still be eligible for reprocessing?”. The lady on the phone started to become increasingly vague and kept avoiding my questions. She really wouldn’t outright answer them. I asked her why was I told I was insured and I then come to find out I wasn’t? Why is it telling her the plan is cancelled but it’s not per my other doctors visits and pharmacy prescriptions? Why did two people say my claim is eligible to be reprocessed and covered and she is saying that now it’s unlikely?

What on earth is going on? Why did I get different answers. Telling me I’m insured and then I’m not…this feels like entrapment and is incredibly unfair and not right. Does anyone have an explanation or advice as to why they wouldn’t tell me that someone told me incorrect information or what can/should I do? Thank you all 🙏
