I currently $490 out of pocket for a “really good” health plan through Harvard pilgrim healthcare for one person. This is private insurance.

My deductible is $3500

I had an intake appointment with an allergy clinic that lasted 50 minutes, it was a virtual visit. Basically they just took down my information and said we would schedule a new appointment to explore services. I’m not being billed $375.39. Apparently my insurance covered $15 of the visit.

I emailed the billing department and asked why I was charged $390 for an intake visit where I did not receive any services. They told me I was charge that much based on the time of the visit which was 50 minutes, not really answering my question, but here we are.

I don’t understand why I need to pay $390 for a 50 minute virtual visit where they literally just asked me questions. This is costing them nothing to do this virtual visit except 15 minutes of their time. Is there any way around this? I’m devastated. I also need therapy but I can’t afford that as the first visit is $240 and then $190 for every visit after that. Biggest scam ever.
