Health insurance in NJ – please help

Hi everyone,

I’m coming into this subreddit truly clueless about health insurance & what my options are. I have never had to do this before. I could really use some help. I live in NJ and am 22 years old. Up until recently, I was living at home with my dad and our family qualified for Medicaid. Now I no longer live at home, I now live with my boyfriend. It was time to enroll again for Medicaid and my dad explained to me that since I don’t live at home, I cannot be included in the application, so I lost coverage (Which I understand.) I am not trying to figure what I should do as I have some health issues and really cannot go without insurance. My job offers insurance but it’s very expensive and coverage is very poor. I simply cannot afford the monthly cost of the insurance through my job.

One of the reps from United healthcare community plan gave me the phone number for NJ family care. I’ve been trying to research NJ family care since then, as well as marketplace plans. Would these be good options for me? And how do they work?

Another thing I should note is that if they go by last years tax returns, I was making more money last year than I am this year. I’m so sorry to sound so clueless, this is just my first time doing this and I’m trying my best to figure this out as I don’t really have anyone around me that would know & would be able to help me. Any help is appreciated Thank you so much in advance.
