Having a baby and losing health insurance

I am currently finishing up my postdoctoral fellowship, which is set to end tomorrow (September 15th) and so my insurance is only covering through September 30th. I receive health insurance through them and it is a fantastic plan with a low deductible. My husband is on his own plan through work, but their insurance is terrible and has an extremely high deductible with few covered providers.

I am due with our first baby at the end of September, but am scheduled for an induction on September 25th so that I will 100% have insurance when he comes. Of course though, the hospital stay could be extended for various reasons. I have a new job lined up in December that has health insurance, so I’m really just concerned about October and November.

My current options I see: go on Cobra. Since I have already met my deductible, I think this may be the best choice. It is expensive but also gives some peace of mind. Go onto his insurance- though the pediatrician we want is not covered and I think we would actually end up spending more. Go to the marketplace- I know nothing about this so I’m unsure if it’s a good call.

My question is- let’s say we (me or the baby) are in the hospital still for a few days in October. Will all of these options have us covered?

Thank you!!
