Have to pay estimate up front?

Dentist forces me to pay up front

Hello,

I had to get my wisdom teeth taken out and the office is forcing me to pay up front based on an estimate. However, prior to today, I’ve had multiple different dentist offices overcharging me based on the estimate and it is a huge pain to get the difference back.

I tried to let them charge me after they submit to insurance and get the true amount, but they are saying that it is my insurance policy that had me pay up front, not them. And that I signed the treatment plan, so that means I agree to pay the estimated price?

Could someone help in this situation? Is it legally okay for me to refuse to pay the estimate and wait for the actual statement? How to properly say that? Is it true that it is the insurance that forces me to pay up front? Not the office themselves? If I want to not pay the estimate, does that mean I shouldn’t sign the estimate treatment plan?

Thank you!
