Has anyone been successful at getting the 20 week anatomy scan ultrasound covered under preventative prenatal care?

Has anyone had any success getting insurance to cover the 20 week anatomy scan ultrasound covered under preventative prenatal care?

I was charged $890 (AFTER insurance – Aetna) for the 20 week scan. I was not under the impression that this appointment was optional or outside “routine” care. Aetna keeps telling me prenatal care is covered if it’s “routine.” I’m having a hard time accepting the 20 week scan as diagnostic (per Aetna), and not “routine,” given how often it is done, how it is scheduled, and the fact that it’s scheduled with almost every OB patient, at a standard gestational date, regardless of any pre-existing conditions or concerns. For something to be diagnostic, wouldn’t there have to be evidence of concern that warrants further diagnostic testing? Would “additional”, “non-routine” services be ordered if nothing out of the norm was occurring for the patient?? I realize I’m fighting a bigger issue here, but just looking to see if anyone has had success in getting this covered.
