Handling an additional claim from a surgeon who stopped by to assist the primary surgeon.

A few months ago I had some screws removed from my leg by an orthopedic surgeon. Prior to the surgery, I received my surgery estimate and paid. When I woke up from the surgery, I was told "oh there was a plastic surgeon on the floor and he staple closed the 6 inch incision for you." I wasn't told this would be possibility before hand, and I didn't consent to it.

I was not particularly bothered about the situation until I received a $500 bill from the plastic surgeon. The EOB states that he already received a $1500 payment from BCBS (more than the orthopedic surgeon).

I would not have agreed to this before hand. It was my 7th surgery in that general area, I have so many scars unrelated to this recent surgery that I wouldn't have paid extra to make the most recent one look better (as an aside, it doesn't look any better than the rest).

Any advice on how to handle this?
