Had overlapping coverage in January – got a letter from insurance today asking about extra insurance – now I’m worried

On January 8th 2024 my husband started a new job and his new insurance benefits became effective immediately. His insurance through his previous employer automatically termed on February 1st. So we had an overlap from January 8th-February 1st. Both plans are through Anthem.

Our five children went to their primary care for checkups in January during this overlap. One of our children had an emergency MRI to rule out a brain tumor during this time as well. We use an app to keep track of claims. We let the providers know that he started a new job and when each plan became effective/termed. On the app we’d see the claims come in through the first plan and then again through the second plan. In February this kept happening and it would show the first plan declining the claims (because it had termed) and the new plan was approving the claims. This stopped happening in April.

Fast forward to today:

We got a questionnaire asking if anyone on the plan has bought another insurance plan in the last 12 months. It also said they could not start “working on our claims” until they received rhe paperwork. Now I’m worried that one or even all of our claims from the overlap was not properly billed and will be retroactively denied and cause some sort of chaos. Is this likely the case or is this questionnaire common practice annual for something? I don’t remember getting anything like this before but we’ve only had this plan since January so I am not sure what to make of it.
